Ceremonial Mosaics

These mosaics mark life's ceremonies. Commissioned to honour a death, or to celebrate a birth, a marriage, a union — each piece holds whatever the moment asks of it: grief, joy, connection, remembrance.

My process for creating a ceremonial mosaic always starts at the centre. I use a circular board and trace the pattern outward from there. A circle is a cycle — no beginning, no end. To me, this reflects the interconnectedness of life.

I anchor the process with a centring prayer, setting an intention for the focus of the work ahead. From there, I work with the design and colours that hold meaning for the family — a slow, peaceful practice that honours and acknowledges the occasion at its heart.

Wall-mounted, the finished piece becomes like a mandala — a focal point within a room, a space that creates a centre within. It offers a moment to return to, a quiet place to connect — to what has passed, to what is beginning, to the wholeness of being.

The Practical Part

Each mosaic begins with a conversation — talking through the person, the occasion, and the colours and symbols that feel right, before any design work begins.
